Antique verre églomisé silhouette in a metal frame. A technique from late antiquity, verre églomisé is a process through which a panel of glass is backed with silver or gold leaf, engraved with a design through the leaf, and colored pigment is applied to the engraving so that the color shows through. The glass is then backed with protective glass or foil.
